A Magical city suspendied in time........Just Linköping

I have asked my good friend Tomas from Sweden to write about his city .I was learning about Linköping little by little as he told me his diary life, the activities and their way of life, So I felt like watching videos from it .Now I became a fun! I totally felt in love with Linköping and the whole Sweden.

To locate all of you in the city ,here is a brief description about it.

is a city in southern Sweden, It is the seat of Linköping Municipality and the capital of Östergötland County. Linköping is also the episcopal see of the Diocese of Linköping (Church of Sweden) and is well known for its cathedral. Linköping is the center of an old cultural region and celebrated its 700th anniversary in 1987. Dominating the city's skyline from afar is the steeple of the cathedral.

Nowadays Linköping is known for its university and its high-technology industry. Linköping wants to create a sustainable development of the city and therefore plans to become a carbon neutral community by 2025.

It is Sweden’s fifth largest city and growing, both geographically and in population. It is home to 150 000 people. It has a wealth of leisure activities and experiences for all ages. , Linköping is the place to be.

I share this article written by Tomas about Gamla Linköping

In one part of Linköping city, there is an area that represents the old city which in this context means several timber logged houses in old fashioned style with cobblestone alleys. Wooden houses from all of the Östergötland county has been moved into this area to create the rustic feeling of what it might be like to travel 100 years back in time.(1)

Putting size into focus, Gamla Linköping is not very large. I takes about 15 min to walk the outer perimeters of the area but since there are a variety stores, a nature reserve close by with trails and the possibility to take "quiz walks" you could stay occupied for a full day.

December each year there is a winter market every weekend where local retailers sell their goods. It's often has a cosy nice feeling walking around in the cold, stop for a grilled delicacy or something warm to drink.(3 rd picture)

There is a bed and breakfast, Hilma Winblads, in the area which has the old style interior preserved. If you want to stay in Linköping and can exclude the more luxurious hotels in favor for charm, this is the place to stay.(4th picture)

Close to the square there is a Café.They serve pastry and homemade sandwiches. There is Gluten free, Egg free, Dairy free and Nut free :-) (5th and 6 picture)

In the other end there is the chocolate store Cloetta, which is famous all over Sweden. If you plan to get a taste of Swedish chocolate this is an excellent stop.( 7th and 8th picture)

Gamla Linköping is ideal for family visits since it offers activities for all ages, from children theater, animals farms in the summer and a science exploration area to gardens, museums, dining places, design shops and local history exhibitions. This is also a living neighborhood in Linköping This means there are people living in the district. There are a total of about 30 apartments in the neighborhood and their residents needs to follow certain rules. Windows must be maintained in an old-fashioned style, with potted plants and curtains suited to the historical environment.
